Thoughts and Prayers for Ray, Please

We have received terrible news today about Ray. He apparently has a very large mass in one of his lungs. We had seen the vet earlier this year about some mild chest congestion, but he didn’t hear anything in the lungs at that time. Things had gotten a bit worse lately – occasionally coughing and increased raspiness in the throat – so we had x-rays done while he was under anesthesia for a teeth cleaning today.

This is very bad. Please keep us in your thoughts.

  2. I’m sorry you got this news. Nobody ever wants it and often lives in dread of it.

As long as Ray is doing well and not feeling badly, there is no telling what his future holds.

Lung mets often lead to coughing, but sometimes it just stalls there and the dog has a wonderful life for a long time. I certainly hope this is the path Ray takes. But in the meantime, enjoy him and don’t get so wrapped up in the news that you forget to enjoy his life.

  3. Thanks Shari and Sally. We just returned from the vet and reviewed the x-rays, which were also looked at by a radiologist. Their thought is that this is a primary tumor. This is probably the best we could hope for, in that it can be more easily excised, if we decide to go that route. Unfortunately, the mass is quite large, taking up almost an entire quadrant (25%) of his total lung capacity. We looked at similar xrays of him from a year ago (just before his leg was amputated) and his lungs were clear, so this has happened since then.

Our plan is to talk to a local oncologist on Monday. Will keep everyone posted.

  4. Bad news. Oh boy. Well, I guess this means you have an answer, right? I’m so glad you’ll be seeing an onco on Monday. That’ll help a lot! In the meantime, try not to focus or freak out (but, feel free to, too! We all understand!). Love him up and on Monday there will be a plan. Oh, a PLAN!

  8. That is not good news and I’m so sorry but like Katy said, stay calm as best as you can. Remember Ray doesn’t know what the x-rays said, he’s just happy he has clean teeth and is enjoying every moment with you.

I know it’s easier said than done to try not to panic until you know what you’re dealing with, but it’s the only way to get through this with your sanity. Until then, enjoy your weekend with Ray and remember we are thinking of you both and sending lots of love.

  9. I’m sorry to hear this. It isn’t good news, but Ray is a fighter. I know you must feel like you were just kicked in the stomach, but try to take it one day at a time. I am keeping Ray and and in my thoughts and prayers.
